Electrical Engineer (NY):

Nelson Associates Architectural Engineering, a full service architectural and engineering firm, is seeking to hire an electrical engineer.  This is a great opportunity for an energetic, positive, self-motivated person to join a well-established design firm to work in a potential leadership role.  This individual will be an integral part of the architectural and engineering design group, working alongside engineers, architects, and project managers in performing technical design and preparing specifications. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Full time position.
• Design and develop electrical and fire alarm systems for commercial, institutional, education, health care, multi-family housing, and other related type projects.
• Produce contract documents, including plans and specifications.
• Prepare scaled drawings and contract documents for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, and miscellaneous controls.
• Perform electric load calculations.
• Prepare construction and design cost estimates.
• Work with multi-discipline project teams to coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and fire alarm with architectural documents.
• Prepare technical reports.
• Perform review of calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by technical staff.
• Mentor and train entry-level electrical engineers/designers.

Skills and Qualifications:
• BS in Electrical Engineering.
• (3) to (10) years experience working with electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of standard construction practice and Building Code of NYS, NFPA, ADA, etc.
• Skilled in AutoCAD (Revit a plus).
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work as a team member interacting with architects, owners, contractors, and coworkers.
• Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine tasks.

• Full time position.
• Design and develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, education, health care, multi-family housing, and other related type projects.
• Produce contract documents, including plans and specifications.
• Perform system sizing calculations.
• Perform heating/cooling calculations.
• Prepare construction and design cost estimates.
• Work with multi-discipline project teams to coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and fire alarm with architectural documents.
• Prepare technical reports.
• Perform review of calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by technical staff.
• Mentor and train entry-level electrical engineers/designers.

Skills and Qualifications:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology.
• (5) to (20) years experience working with electrical systems.
• Skilled in AutoCAD (Revit a plus).
• Working knowledge of standard construction practice and Building Code of NYS, NFPA, ADA, etc.
• Proficiency in the design of mechanical systems for various building types.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and understand P&IDs, control strategies, and the development of control schematics based upon these documents.
• Ability to work with multi-discipline project teams.
• Ability to make basic technical decisions regarding analysis and detailing.
• Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine tasks.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that are well organized.

Construction Services Representative (NY):

Nelson Associates Architectural Engineering, a full service architectural and engineering firm, is seeking to hire a construction services representative.  This is an administrative level position requiring knowledge in reading architectural, civil/structural, mechanical, and electrical construction documents, with the ability to manage project budgets and personnel.  This individual will report to an officer of the company or the officer’s designated employees.  This position requires site observation and assessment of conformance with the firm’s construction documents, and interaction with the firm’s professional and technical personnel during the bidding/construction phase work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Full time position.
• Attend construction meetings, review contractor schedules, prepare meeting minutes, and answer contractor questions/RFIs regarding construction documents.
• Review/monitor scheduling and time spent on the construction phase of projects in order to meet utilization targets and stay within project budgets.
• Provide document review prior to construction and report to the project manager any discrepancies or potential issues.
• Serve as liaison between contractor and project team for optimum communication and minimal disruption for project manager and technical staff.
• Prepare detailed construction cost estimates for projects, working with project team and using available resources.
• Support the process and procedures set forth in the construction documents and reinforce these procedures with all contractors.
• Assist the project managers with change orders, punch lists, and closeout documents.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Minimum two year college degree in a technical field, preferably in the construction, architectural, or engineering fields.
• Minimum 10 years of construction management experience.
• Working knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Willingness to travel to job sites as directed.
• Ability to work with multi-discipline project teams.
• Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine tasks.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that are well organized.
