Mechanical Engineer (NY and FL):

Nelson Associates Architectural Engineering, a well-established multidisciplinary design firm, is seeking an energetic, positive person to join the firm’s team as a mechanical engineer in a potential leadership role  This position is available both at Clinton, NY and Apollo Beach, FL locations.  NAAE offers an employee friendly work environment with a strong sense of mission and vision. The candidate will be an integral part of the architectural and engineering design group, working with other engineers, architects, and project managers for technical design and specifications. The candidate must be self-motivated and possess the technical ability to work independently on projects from schematic design through the construction phase with minimal guidance.  Ownership opportunities may be available at the candidate’s option.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• This is a full time position.
• Will design and develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, education, health care, multi-family housing, and other related type projects.
• Will produce contract documents, including plans and specifications.
• Will perform heating/cooling calculations.
• Will perform system sizing calculations.
• Will prepare construction and design cost estimates.
• Will work with multi-discipline project teams to coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection with architectural documents.
• Will prepare technical reports.
• Will perform review of calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by technical staff.
• Will mentor and train entry-level mechanical engineers/designers.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Technology.
• PE registration or ability to obtain registration is required.
• (5) to (20) years experience working with mechanical and HVAC systems (mid to senior level desired).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is required (knowledge of Revit a plus).
• Proficiency in the design of mechanical systems for various building types.
• Knowledge and understanding of national and local mechanical and energy codes.
• Strong knowledge of design of HVAC systems.
• Ability to read and understand P&IDs, control strategies, and the development of control schematics based upon these documents.
• Ability to work with multi-discipline project teams.
• Ability to make basic technical decisions regarding analysis and detailing.
• Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine tasks.
• Strong oral and written communication skills that are well organized.

The candidate will be an integral part of the architectural and engineering design group, working with engineers, architects, and project managers for technical design and specifications.  This position reports to a licensed mechanical engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• This is a full time position.
• Will design and develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, education, health care, multi-family housing, and other related type projects.
• Under direction of senior design staff, will produce contract documents, including plans and specifications.
• Will assist with heating/cooling calculations and system sizing calculations.
• Will assist with preparation of construction and design cost estimates.
• Will work with a multi-discipline production team to coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection with architectural documents.

Skills and Qualifications:
• Minimum (2) year college degree in a technical field, preferably in the field of engineering.
• At least (2) years experience working with mechanical and HVAC systems.
• Skilled in AutoCAD (Revit a plus).
• Knowledge and understanding of national and local mechanical and energy codes.
• Ability to work with multi-discipline project teams.
• Ability to make basic technical decisions regarding analysis and detailing.
• Ability to work independently to effectively complete routine tasks.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that are well organized.
